[Troy & Carolyn Reed.FTW]

What is known of William Shirley Sturch was learned from his nephew, Richard W. Sturch, and his only living sons, Clark McKinley and William Tanner Sturch. He was a partner with a Mr. Freeman and a Mr. Mason in the operation of a sawmill south of Alonzo, near Floral, Arkansas, this was around 1908. They used to haul lumber to Batesville with teams of horses and wagons. Many of the older homes in Batesville were built with the lumber they cut, sawed, and hauled. William Shirley moved to Pangburn, Arkansas and owned and operated a planning Mill and a Lumber yard there. He also owned and operated a Garage, and general store with his father, and the only electric light plant there. When he passed away he was working as a school crossing Guard at a busy Street in Huston, Texas. William was a tall, thin man and wore glasses. He passed away on September 26, 1965 in Beaumont, TX. He is buried in Rosevelt cemetery in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas.
