Belle Guess was working (probably as housekeeper) for a Dr. Graves or Greaves in Aplin and was raped by him. No other information known about this man. Belle decided to keep the child against the advice of at least one of her older children. One wanted her to put him up for adoption.

Belle gave Orvalle the name of her first husband since her second husband was still living and she was divorced from him. Whether he objected to giving him his name is unknown but probably was because she was not happy with the way she was treated by him while they were married.

Orvalle served in the Navy in WWII and from memory was wounded at least once. While sitting around the table eating while he was home on leave he let it slip that he had been in the hospital. Some souveniers brought back were marked with Aruba, W.I. Also pictures of the area. There also are postcards from Venezuela but don't know whether he was in that Country.

Orvalle lived in Cushing for a few years after marriage then moved to California. He was a dry wall contractor. From his last picture he must have had Emphysema since he was on oxygen.
